Practicing sustainability on vacation

Good for me and the environment

We encounter the term sustainability in many areas. Even when it comes to the best time of the year - vacation. Conscious behavior in nature, careful use of resources and the preservation of traditions are essential components of living sustainability in Burgenland.

The concept of sustainability originally comes from the timber industry. The principle was based on the following guiding principle: only as much wood should be felled as can grow back. In this way, future generations were also taken into account when managing the economy. Today, the concept of sustainability is seen in a wider context: Environmental protection, the preservation of traditions or the conservation of habitats play a major role. Sustainability can be lived and experienced in everyday life and while on vacation.

Nature is a valuable habitat for plants, animals and humans. It is therefore particularly important to protect nature and its inhabitants. In the six nature parks and the Neusiedler See - Seewinkel National Park, the focus is therefore on protection. But traditions and old crafts should also be preserved for future generations. Craftsmanship and folk culture receive special attention and appreciation in the form of intangible cultural heritage. Energy efficiency, regional products, careful use of resources and incentives for sustainable behavior can be found in the accommodations certified by the Austrian Ecolabel.
