“Let your song of praise ring out, rejoice in the Lord, the mighty God,” trumpet the heavenly hosts in the “Creation,” “Hooray, let us be joyful and Yippee, Yippee, Yippee shout with full throat,” exult the wine-drunk rural folk in the “Seasons”: For Joseph Haydn, singing is a joyfully fulfilled commandment – and so, for the first time, a large choral festival will unite hundreds of voices in and around Schloss Esterhazy in workshops and various concerts. The audience will be delighted in many styles and according to diverse tastes by the most immediate, physical music-making that has existed since time immemorial: singing.
Rajaton
Rajaton means “boundless.” Those who experience the Finnish singers on stage quickly realize that the name is programmatic. It is hard to imagine an audience they cannot sing for, or a genre of music they cannot make their own. In doing so, they have developed their own distinctive style that is absolutely unconventional, contemporary, and refreshing.
