Paul Potts (James Corden) grows up in the small Welsh port town of Port Talbot. From a young age, the somewhat chubby boy faces bullying from his classmates; a phenomenon that stays with him even into adulthood. Otherwise, Paul leads a normal life, with one small exception: he has an extraordinary voice and dreams of becoming an opera singer. After a long time of saving, Paul sets off for Venice to train at an opera school. However, at an audition, the famous tenor Luciano Pavarotti tells him that he lacks the confidence for this career. Heartbroken, Paul returns to Port Talbot and wants to give up on his dream entirely. But his girlfriend Julie-Ann (Alexandra Roach) and his best friend Braddon (Mackenzie Crook) convince him to give it another try: Paul auditions for the talent show “Britain’s Got Talent”...
