“Let your song of praise resound, rejoice in the Lord, the mighty God,” the heavenly hosts proclaim in the “Creation,” “Heigh-ho, let us be joyful and hurrah, hurrah, hurrah shout with full voices,” cheers the wine-drenched countryside folk in the “Seasons”: In Joseph Haydn’s world, singing is a joyfully fulfilled command – and so, for the first time, a large choral festival will unite hundreds of voices in and around the Esterhazy Palace in a workshop and various concerts. The audience will be delighted in many styles and tastes with the most direct, physical music-making that has existed since time immemorial: singing.
